What are the methods of contraception after the event?

Although some people attach great importance to contraception and of course use condoms when having sex, the quality of some condoms is not that good. So some people want to know how to use contraception afterwards. In this way, with double assurance, people will not get pregnant. So what are the methods of contraception afterwards? What issues should we focus on? Let us learn about it next, and we hope the following content will be helpful to everyone.

Take it within 72 hours after having sex without taking contraceptive measures or after contraceptive failure (such as condom breakage, slippage, loss of control of ejaculation outside the body, incorrect calculation of the safe period, etc.), or insert a copper intrauterine device (commonly known as the IUD) within 5 days to avoid remedial measures. There are two main methods you can take: taking medication or having a copper IUD inserted.

Many people know how to use emergency contraceptive pills, such as Yuting, Baoshiting, Anting, etc. However, these hormonal emergency contraceptive pills are only suitable for women under the age of 39, because women over the age of 40 have declining ovarian function and are prone to menstrual disorders or amenorrhea. Taking the medicine is more likely to cause menstrual disorders (such as irregular bleeding) or amenorrhea. In fact, there are some other emergency contraceptive drugs, and mifepristone is a drug that has been studied more in recent years. Mifepristone (also known as RU486) is a progesterone antagonist with a different mechanism of action from other emergency contraceptives. It was initially used as an early pregnancy drug and was later gradually used to treat some gynecological diseases such as uterine fibroids. Studies in recent years have found that mifepristone can also be used for emergency contraception, and its contraceptive effect is the same as emergency contraceptive pills such as Yuting.

It is effective when taken orally within 72 hours, and recent studies suggest that it is also effective within 120 hours, but the earlier it is taken, the better the contraceptive effect. The side effects of this drug are relatively mild, mainly nausea, dizziness, weakness, and early or late menstruation. Unlike drugs such as Yuting which are only suitable for people under 39 years old, mifepristone has no age limit and can also be taken by women over 40 years old.

No matter what kind of emergency contraceptive pills you take, you need to pay attention to the following: emergency contraceptive pills should not be used as regular contraceptive pills, and reliable contraceptive measures should be taken from taking the pills until the next menstruation. Emergency contraceptive pills can only be taken once a month. If vomiting occurs within 2 hours after taking the medicine, you should take another tablet immediately. Emergency contraceptive pills may advance or delay the next menstrual period. If your period still has not occurred after one week of the due date, you should go to the hospital for examination immediately to rule out pregnancy. If you are taking other medications, especially anti-epileptic drugs, anti-tuberculosis drugs, antibiotics, antifungal drugs, and antiviral drugs, the contraceptive effect may be reduced. Be sure to consult a doctor in advance.

Another method of emergency contraception is to place a copper-containing IUD in the uterus within 5 days after sexual intercourse. In recent years, some studies have shown that delaying the placement until 7-10 days after sexual intercourse can also achieve better post-coital contraception effects. The placement of an IUD is suitable for those who have already given birth and are willing to use it as a long-term contraceptive, with no age limit. The advantage is that in addition to the placement time being later than other methods, it can provide new options for those who cannot use hormone drugs, such as those who have contraindications to taking hormone drugs, breast cancer, abnormal liver function or recent history of liver disease or jaundice, venous thrombosis, cerebrovascular accident, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, depression, and allergies to drug ingredients. However, not all women are suitable for IUD insertion. It is not recommended for those who have not given birth, and women with gynecological tumors or sexually transmitted diseases should not have an IUD inserted. And women who have an IUD inserted must have regular follow-up visits as directed by their doctor.

From this we can see that there are many ways to prevent pregnancy after sex. If you want a more scientific method, you can go to the hospital and get help from a doctor. After all, the doctor's method is scientific. Of course, if you don't want to go to the hospital, that's fine too. If you don't know much about this, you can search the Internet to find the correct way to solve the problem. There are many ways to learn about it. The key is whether you can find it.
