The premarital physical examination needs to check many aspects. In addition to internal medicine examination, female friends should also do some gynecological examinations, and male friends should do some genital examinations.

Premarital examination includes internal medicine examination, which mainly checks whether there are any abnormalities in the heart and lungs, whether the liver, spleen and lymph nodes are enlarged, and whether normal nerve reflexes exist; gynecological examination should check the female genitals and perform a bimanual abdominal and anal examination. If a rectal examination reveals suspicious lesions in the internal genitalia and a vaginal examination is necessary, the reasons must be explained to the person being examined and his or her family, and the examination can only be performed after obtaining their consent. During the marriage examination, attention should be paid to the presence of hymen occlusion, vaginal absence or occlusion, uterine absence or hypoplasia or malformation, uterine fibroids, endometriosis, etc. You should also pay attention to whether the vulvar skin and mucous membranes are inflamed, damaged or ulcerated to avoid missing sexually transmitted diseases. When examining the male genitals, attention should be paid to the presence of phimosis, penile induration, short penis, hypospadias, cryptorchidism, small testicles, varicocele and hydrocele, etc.

In addition to the above examinations, some other tests are also required, namely laboratory tests: in addition to blood and urine routine tests, chest X-ray, liver function, blood type, etc., chromosome karyotype analysis is also required when necessary. In addition, women should also undergo vaginal secretion trichomonas and fungal examinations, and a gonorrhea smear test when necessary; men should undergo routine semen testing. If necessary, an IQ test should be done. Some cities also require HIV testing before marriage.

(1) Medical history: Ask about current health status and past medical history, especially diseases that may affect marriage and childbearing, women’s menstrual history, and both parties’ personal history, such as smoking and drinking habits.

(2) Family history of diseases in direct and collateral relatives, at least three generations of family history, to assist in the analysis and guidance of genetic diseases.

(3) Physical examination: Check the whole body, pay attention to mental status and special facial or body shape, genital development and diseases, and make further assessment if necessary.

(4) Auxiliary examinations include routine blood and urine tests, vaginal secretion tests, syphilis spirochete tests, liver function tests and hepatitis B surface antigen tests; if necessary, gonorrhea culture, B-ultrasound, chromosome, hormone and IQ tests, etc.

(5) Consultation and guidance: Provide guidance on marriage and childbearing issues based on the results of the physical examination, as well as guidance on sexual life and contraception.

When the above examinations are normal, the doctor will issue you a normal marriage examination certificate. If any problems are found, the doctor will give you corresponding guidance and explanations and tell you what to do next.
