There is a small amount of blood after sex

The presence of a small amount of blood after sex is considered intercourse bleeding. The causes of bleeding during sexual intercourse are very complicated, and some are closely related to diseases. Especially if it happens frequently, it should be taken seriously. We should find out the causes as soon as possible, identify possible hidden diseases, and avoid lasting harm. So, what is the reason for a small amount of blood after having sex? Let’s take a look below.

main reason

Bleeding during sexual intercourse is a common symptom of gynecological diseases, mainly due to the following reasons:

1. Cervicitis (erosion). 90% of married women suffer from cervicitis. Cervicitis is divided into three types: mild, moderate and severe according to the degree of cervical erosion. For patients with moderate or severe cervical erosion, the rubbing of the cervix by the glans of the male's penis during sexual intercourse may cause injury and bleeding. Because the amount of bleeding is small, it does not flow out immediately but accumulates in the vagina, and the color of the blood changes from fresh to old. Therefore, when the blood flows out the next day, it is dark red.

2. Cervical polyps. Chronic inflammation may cause cervical polyps due to long-term stimulation of the cervix. Single or multiple small pedunculated granulation tissues grow at the cervical opening, looking like bean buds, and the larger ones are as big as a finger. Polyps are fragile and tender, and will bleed if touched, so bleeding may occur after sexual intercourse. This bleeding is usually bright red.

3. Cervical cancer. Bleeding after sexual intercourse is the earliest symptom. Because there are more small blood vessels and the tissues are more fragile in the cancer lesions, the capillaries will rupture and bleed due to damage after each sexual intercourse. If the cancer grows further, it will bleed more easily.

4. Endometriosis. Some endometriosis grows on the cervix and appears as blue-purple nodules. If this blue-purple ectopic nodule is touched during sexual intercourse, it will cause bleeding. The amount of bleeding is generally small and dark red, and abdominal pain often occurs after intercourse.

5. Pelvic inflammatory disease. Pelvic inflammation can cause pelvic congestion. If the endometrium is congested and edematous, the congested endometrium may bleed after sex, but this chance is rare.

6. Sexual intercourse injury. A common site of sexual intercourse injury is the vaginal foramina, which can sometimes cause a foramina several centimeters long. In severe cases, it can reach the peritoneum or penetrate the peritoneum into the abdominal cavity. Some people mistakenly believe that pressing some gauze on the vulva or using some menstrual paper will stop the bleeding, but in fact this does not help. Therefore, if this happens, you need to go to the hospital for examination and treatment as soon as possible. The gynecologist will take appropriate treatment measures according to the specific circumstances of the injury, such as inserting gauze into the vagina for compression or using intestinal sutures to stop bleeding.

Common causes

There are many reasons for female bleeding during sexual intercourse, which can be roughly divided into two categories: improper sexual intercourse and local organic lesions of the female reproductive system, with the latter being more common.

Reasons for IUD insertion

The main reason for bleeding during sexual intercourse after IUD insertion is that the intrauterine ring is a foreign body in the uterine cavity. Its mechanical compression can cause local damage, necrosis and ulcers of the endometrium. The stimulation of sexual intercourse will inevitably cause bleeding. However, generally after a period of time, the body adapts to the contraceptive ring and the bleeding will ease or disappear. However, if bleeding during intercourse always occurs after the IUD is inserted, you should be alert to the occurrence of infection and other adverse conditions.

Other reasons

When you are still immersed in the enjoyment of the sex you just had, you walk into the bathroom and suddenly find that you are bleeding from your lower body. Nothing brings you back to reality faster than bleeding from your vagina. There are many reasons that can cause bleeding after sex, and none of them should be underestimated. Now let me explain to you other reasons for bleeding after sex.

1. Abnormal cervical development: Abnormal cervical development is a sign of cervical epithelial cell cancer. Having multiple sexual partners, having intercourse before age 18, becoming pregnant before age 16, or having a history of sexually transmitted diseases can increase the likelihood of abnormal cervical development. It is usually treated by performing cryosurgery.

2. Chlamydia infection: The viral infection is usually transmitted through sexual intercourse and with sperm, vaginal fluid or blood.

3. Gonorrhea: a sexually transmitted disease caused by a virus. This disease can be cured by many medications.

4. Vaginitis: It may be an inflammation of the vagina. Inflammation may also be caused by a tumor or viral infection. Treatment depends on the cause.

5. Trichomoniasis: A sexually transmitted disease usually caused by protozoa, which can also be transmitted from infected mothers to newborn babies during delivery. Sometimes, the virus is transmitted from tap water, urine, toilet seats, and swimming pools. This disease can cause vaginitis.

6. Vaginal yeast infection: Excessive growth of fungi in the vagina. Symptoms usually include: vaginal itching, pain, bad odor, abnormal leucorrhea, etc.

7. Endometritis: Endometritis is an infection of the endometrium.

8. Uterine polyps: When the endometrium grows excessively and causes the endometrium to extend into the uterus, it will cause uterine polyps. Women with uterine polyps may experience bleeding between their periods. Other symptoms include: bleeding after sexual intercourse, heavy menstrual bleeding, bleeding after menopause, and bleeding while taking hormonal medications. Curettage with the help of hysteroscopy is a better treatment method.

9. Fibroma: Generally speaking, fibroma is a benign tumor. They are solid tumors that are fibrous. Only a small number of fibroids are malignant. There are many different symptoms of fibroids, and some women may not experience any symptoms. After menopause, when the secretion of female hormones stops, fibroids will automatically shrink and gradually disappear.
