How long can an egg survive?

The sperm and egg meet and combine in the fallopian tube to form a fertilized egg, which then implants in the uterus. This process is what we call pregnancy. During this process, if there is even the slightest obstruction, it will affect the development of the fetus, and in severe cases, even miscarriage may occur. Therefore, parents who are planning to become pregnant should learn about the baby's growth and development process and understand what to pay attention to.

When it comes to understanding the process of pregnancy, we first need to understand the formation process of sperm and eggs. Sperm is produced by men and eggs are provided by women. The process of egg formation is relatively complicated, and the survival period of the egg is generally short. Next, let us understand the formation and survival time of the egg.

Women ovulate regularly once a month. The ovulation time (ovulation period) is generally 12 to 16 days before the next menstruation. The released egg can generally only survive for 12-30 hours. After sexual intercourse between a man and a woman, the amount of semen ejaculated by the man into the vagina can be as little as 2 to 3 ml, or as much as 5 to 6 ml. Each milliliter contains as few as 60 million sperm and as many as 100 to 200 million. After 2 hours in the vagina, 90% of the sperm will die, and generally do not survive more than 8 hours; 1-5% can reach the uterine cavity; most of the sperm that enter the uterus can survive for 6 hours, and sperm can survive in the fallopian tube for 1-3 days.

It takes 3 to 4 days for the fertilized egg to reach the uterus from the fallopian tube after fertilization. After cleavage, the fertilized egg forms a human blastocyst, which can secrete a proteolytic enzyme that erodes the endometrium and allows the fertilized egg to implant into it. This is medically called "implantation", and pregnancy begins. Therefore, a woman is more likely to become pregnant only if she has sex 3 days before and 1 day after ovulation. In real life, we can also see people getting pregnant through sexual intercourse around the 7th day of menstruation.

If the menstruation is regular, generally speaking, it can be detected about 3-5 days before the menstruation, using ordinary pregnancy test strips or pregnancy test pens.

The above is the formation process and survival time of the egg. From the above we can see that the egg actually has a certain survival time in the human body. If it stays in the body for too long and there is no sperm to combine with it, the egg will be attracted back to our body. Therefore, if someone needs to have a child, they should pay attention to their ovulation period.
