Fisher and his team recruited 163 female and 129 male college students and asked them to carry a counter. The researchers then asked 60% of the subjects to press a counter every time they thought about sex, while the rest of the subjects were asked to count when they thought about food or sleep. In this way, interference when asking questions and errors when recalling can be avoided.
