What tests are usually done for infertility? For male infertility, understanding the factors of infertility is the only way to treat it correctly. Many male friends fail to realize this, which leads to the aggravation of their condition.

1. Male sperm examination. Generally, only a short period of abstinence of three to seven days is required for male sperm examination. During the working hours of the reproductive medicine center staff, the collected semen is placed in the examination box and delivered to the technician as much as possible within one hour. The result will be known within half an hour.

2. Fallopian tube photography. Fallopian tube photography is the most commonly performed examination to evaluate the patency of a woman's fallopian tubes by using photography to develop the uterine cavity and fallopian tubes. If there is never ovulation, the fertilized egg is at the end of the fallopian tube or in the abdominal cavity, causing ectopic pregnancy; during irregular examinations, the blocked blood may be in the originally unobstructed fallopian tube, resulting in misdiagnosis. Therefore, the best time to check is three to seven days after the end of menstruation.

3. Hysteroscopy and laparoscopy. The mirror must be opened to examine the uterine cavity, irrigation, and laparoscopic surgery is a contrast agent injected into the uterine cavity and fallopian tubes to determine if the fallopian tubes are blocked, which can flush the embryo away and cause pregnancy. Therefore, the best time to check would be three to seven days after your period ends.

4. Ovarian tumor index test: If you choose to draw blood during menstruation to check the ovarian tumor index, it will show a high false positive result, which will make patients worry in vain and think that they have an incurable disease. Therefore, it is recommended to check during the non-menstrual period.

5. The examination can be done only when the patient is fasting, because hormones, prolactin, and ovarian tumor index do not fluctuate or change before meals, so fasting is not required for the examination; and hysterosalpingography is performed when the patient is awake, and fasting is not required. Only the mirror is used. Laparoscopic surgery is performed under general anesthesia to avoid aspiration pneumonia caused by food reflux in the gastroesophageal tract, so fasting is required for 8 hours before the examination.

6. Prolactin test. Generally, if a woman’s prolactin level is too high, it will interfere with normal ovulation and menstrual cycle. Since prolactin rises physiologically in the evening, especially at night, it is recommended to check in the morning for better accuracy.

7. Ovarian function test: generally, blood is drawn on the second or third day of the menstrual period to check hormones. Because at this time, the hormones in the female body will not fluctuate too much, so it is possible to clearly judge problems such as ovarian aging, chronic anovulation, and polycystic ovary symptoms.
