How can you be perfect if you don't understand your sexual response cycle?

The so-called cycle refers to the repeated appearance of certain characteristics in the process of movement and change of things, and the time between two consecutive appearances is called the "cycle". Human sexuality also follows a cyclical pattern. The human sexual response cycle refers to the overall process of sexual physiology, psychology, and behavior caused by sexual stimulation. It is very important to understand the laws of your own sexual response cycle, because sex life is a coordinated activity between husband and wife. Only when both parties have normal sexual responses can sex life be mutually satisfying.

The four stages of the sexual response cycle

There are subtle differences in the sexual response cycles of men and women, but the general rules are the same. It is worth mentioning that psychological factors play a very important role in the entire sexual response cycle. In addition to the synergistic effects of psychological activities such as touch, vision, smell, representation, association, and thinking, emotional stimulation and emotional communication often play a decisive role. Therefore, human sexual behavior is an organic unity of physiology and psychology, even in non-sexual activities. So, how are the four stages of the human sexual response cycle divided?

1. Excitement stage: Under the influence of sexual stimulation, people's sexual desire is aroused, and the body begins to show a stage of sexual tension. The excitement phase is characterized by changes in sexual organs, accessory sexual organs, and muscle tension.

The main sign for women is a lot of vaginal discharge, and for men it is an erection.

2. Plateau phase: refers to the period when sexual tension remains at a relatively stable level under the continued effect of sexual stimulation. The typical manifestation of this stage is that men and women adopt different forms of sexual organ friction to enrich their emotional exchange in sex.

At this time, the outer third of the female vagina is obviously congested, causing the vaginal opening to tighten; the male penis becomes harder, the circumference of the glans increases, and there may be a small amount of secretions at the urethral opening.

3. Climax: At this time, the sexual tension of both men and women suddenly reaches a peak, bringing about a wave of euphoria.

The main feature of women is the simultaneous rhythmic contraction of the uterus, anterior vagina and pubococcygeus muscles, but the clitoris does not become erect at this time. The main feature of males is ejaculation, which is accomplished by the simultaneous rhythmic contraction of the prostate, perineal muscles, and the shaft of the penis.

4. Resolution phase: This is the process in which the body's tension gradually relaxes and subsides. At this time, both men and women have a very comfortable and peaceful feeling.

However, before the symptoms completely subside, women may experience repeated orgasms if they are sexually stimulated again. Men then enter a refractory period and cannot orgasm again.

Male-specific refractory period

This is something that women do not have. Men have a "refractory period" during the resolution period. This refers to the period of time after orgasm. During this period, genital stimulation no longer causes sexual excitement, the penis does not become erect, and may even cause physical discomfort. The refractory period is a necessary relaxation stage before the second sexual excitement climax, and it is also a necessary "recharge" period for sperm accumulation and physical recovery.

Female-specific sexual phase

Sexologists have repeatedly stressed that the sexual response cycles of men and women are slightly different. The male sexual response cycle is divided into four phases: excitement phase, continuation phase, orgasm phase, and resolution phase. Its characteristic is the ability to quickly enter a state of excitement, which is related to "initiative" and "offensiveness". Relatively speaking, women's sexual response is slow, "passive," and related to "receptivity." This is consistent with the "active" crawling of sperm and the "passive" slow downward movement of the egg during fertilization. The main reason for this is that women have a short period of sexual desire during the excitement phase, while men do not have this phase. It can be understood as a psychological buffer zone before women accept sex. It mainly refers to the stage of sexual desire after psychological unconditional and/or conditioned stimulation. This stage is characterized by sexual fantasies and sexual desire. There are only psychological changes, no obvious physiological changes.
