This gynecological disease can cause cancer in men

Men are the backbone of the family. If they have some health problems, it will have a huge impact on the family. In fact, couples not only look alike, but also share common diseases. Some diseases of women can also be transmitted to men. Let me explain them to you below!

Washington State University researchers have discovered how Trichomonas can trigger prostate cancer, a finding that could lead to better diagnosis and treatment.

Researchers have discovered how men with trichomoniasis, a curable but often overlooked sexually transmitted disease, develop prostate cancer. Earlier studies have suggested a link between the two diseases, but this latest research suggests a more specific biological mechanism.

John Alderete, a professor in WSU's School of Molecular Biosciences, said the trichomonas parasite activates a whole suite of proteins that keep them active. It's like turning on a light switch, if you don't control the brightness of the light, you will go blind.

Alderete and colleagues at Washington State University and Washington University in St. Louis published their latest research in the journal PLoS Pathogens.

Trichomoniasis is caused by a protozoan parasite and is often referred to as the most common curable sexually transmitted infection. However, most infected people do not experience any symptoms and therefore often do not receive treatment.

Alderete said women are the first to be affected by the sexually transmitted infection, with at least 100,000 women and an equal number of men contracting the disease this year.

Infected women are at greater risk of pregnancy complications and HIV infection.

Infected men have a 40% chance of developing prostate cancer. Nancy Magnuson, a cancer researcher at Washington State University, is an expert on a protein called PIM1 that initiates cancer cell growth. Her colleagues have now determined how the cascade of proteins it regulates leads to the progression of a sexually transmitted infection called Trichomonas to prostate cancer.
