What methods can be used for contraception?

Effective contraception can not only make the relationship between couples more harmonious, but also facilitate women's next pregnancy. However, many people feel confused about contraception and don't know what method to choose to achieve effective contraception. If the wrong method is chosen, it will lead to bad results. So what method can be used for contraception? Let’s take a look at it together.

1. What is subcutaneous contraceptive implant?

Subcutaneous contraceptive implant is a new contraceptive method that has been promoted and used all over the world.

This contraceptive method is to put a certain dose of progesterone in a silicon capsule tube, and then bury the tube under the skin, so that it slowly releases a small amount of progesterone, thereby playing a contraceptive role. my country introduced this contraceptive in 1984 and first used it in cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin and Shenyang. Currently, 15 provinces and cities across the country have established subcutaneous implant clinical experimental centers to conduct this operation. According to relevant statistics, the pregnancy rate within 2 years is only 0.1%, and the pregnancy rate within 3 years is 0.24%.

The implant used in the subcutaneous contraceptive method consists of 6 matchstick-sized silicon capsule tubes, each of which contains 34 mg of L-18A implant (also known as Norplan). After the capsule tube is buried in the subcutaneous tissue, it immediately begins to slowly release contraceptive pills, which can play a contraceptive role after 24 hours. The effective contraceptive period is 5 years.

Subcutaneous contraceptive implants achieve the purpose of contraception by changing the viscosity of cervical mucus, preventing sperm from entering the uterine cavity; inhibiting the growth of the endometrium, which is not conducive to the implantation of the fertilized egg; and inhibiting ovarian ovulation.

2. Who is suitable for using subcutaneous implant contraceptive method?

Women under the age of 40 who need long-term contraception, as long as they are in good health, can use this method of contraception. It is especially suitable for women who are prone to failure when using IUDs, women who cannot take contraceptives on time, and women who have concerns about sterilization surgery.

3. Who is not suitable for subcutaneous implant contraceptive method?

This contraceptive method is not suitable for people with severe anemia, hypertension, frequent headaches, hyperthyroidism, breast cancer, diabetes, uterine fibroids, ovarian tumors, severe skin diseases, hepatitis, nephritis and other diseases, as well as those with a history of ectopic pregnancy, breastfeeding women, women weighing more than 70 kilograms or taking anti-epileptic drugs or anti-tuberculosis drugs.

4. How to use the subcutaneous implant contraceptive method

Subcutaneous contraceptive implant surgery is usually performed within 7 days of the onset of menstruation or at the same time as an artificial abortion. The operation is simple. A small incision is made on the inside of the upper arm of the contraceptive user. Six silicon capsule tubes are pushed into the subcutaneous tissue (arranged in a fan shape) through the incision using a special trocar. The operation is then completed. The incision does not need to be sutured and the entire operation can be completed in a few minutes.

There may be local bruising and swelling within a few days after the operation. No treatment is required in this case, as it will disappear on its own after a few days. If the wound bleeds, becomes infected, or the silicone capsule tube falls out, seek medical attention immediately. You can have sexual intercourse 24 hours after the operation.

A set of silicone capsule tubes is implanted to provide contraception for 5 years, at which time they are removed. If you need to continue using this method of contraception, you can re-implant a set of silicon capsule tubes; if you are planning to have a baby, take out the silicon capsule tubes six months before the planned pregnancy. During this period, you can use condoms or topical contraceptives for contraception.

During the period of subcutaneous implant contraception, if amenorrhea, irregular vaginal bleeding, and lower abdominal pain occur, you should see a doctor immediately to check whether you are pregnant.

5. Advantages of subcutaneous contraceptive implant.

Subdermal contraceptive implants have the following advantages:

(1) The contraceptive effect is good, with a contraceptive efficiency of over 99%.

(2) The contraceptive effect is long-lasting; one implant can provide contraception for 5 years.

(3) Small drug reaction. This contraceptive contains only progestin and no estrogen, so the side effects are smaller than those of oral contraceptives.

(4) It is reversible, and fertility can be restored quickly after the silicone capsule tube is removed.

6. Subcutaneous implant contraceptive method also has some disadvantages:

About 20% of women experience menstrual disorders such as irregular menstruation, prolonged menstruation and increased menstrual blood volume in the early stage of use; some women also experience amenorrhea. Most of the above-mentioned phenomena can gradually improve after half a year.

What methods can be used for contraception? The above answers this question. If you feel confused about contraception, you should carefully look at the methods mentioned above and then choose the method you think is the best and optimal method. If the method you choose is not very good, you must change the contraceptive method in time. This will also achieve the most useful results.
