Which contraceptive ring is better?

Although there are many contraceptive methods now, many women still choose intrauterine contraceptive rings. This is mainly because it does not have the side effects of contraceptive pills, nor the trouble of condoms, and is several times safer than safe period contraception. These are the reasons why it has become the mainstream contraceptive method in my country. And according to people's different body systems, there are many different types of contraceptive rings. So which one is better?

One type is the inert IUD or inactive IUD, which is the first generation product. Inert contraceptive rings are mostly made of stainless steel wire or plastic, such as stainless steel single ring (also known as round ring), double ring, twist ring, palace-shaped ring, etc.; plastic contraceptive flowers, coil rings, eugenics rings and mixed rings made of metal and plastic. This type of IUD was used the earliest and most widely in my country. The IUDs currently used are still mainly single stainless steel rings. Their disadvantages are a higher rate of shedding and pregnancy with the ring.

The other type is the active IUD, which is a second-generation product developed in the 1970s. Most of them are made of plastic or silicone rubber as the stent, and then wrapped with copper wire or put in progesterone (female hormone), so they are also called copper or progesterone contraceptive rings. In addition to the contraceptive properties of the first-generation products, this type of IUD also affects the internal environment of the uterine cavity by slowly releasing copper ions or progesterone to improve the contraceptive effect.

The contraceptive effect of the first type of IUD is significantly higher than that of the first generation product, but the disadvantage is that it causes more bleeding after insertion. At present, foreign countries mainly use steel IUDs, and my country is also gradually promoting their use. Commonly used ones are copper T-type, V-type and uterine IUDs.

The body of the Mother Ring is V-shaped, consistent with the shape of the uterine cavity. The bracket is made of memory alloy, which has good compliance and is not easy to deform. There are copper particles at both ends, which are not easy to fall off. Another feature of this ring is that it has no tail thread, thus reducing the incidence of reproductive tract infections and discomfort in sexual life. Of course, the ring with the lowest rate of ring removal is the Genie Ring imported from Belgium. Its appearance resembles a miniature chain and is composed of 6 copper sleeves strung through polypropylene surgical sutures. Because the entire ring has no stent, its shape is relatively free and can change with the uterine cavity. At the same time, one end of the ring is embedded in the myometrium of the uterine wall, so the shedding rate is low.

The vaginal contraceptive ring is a new type of vaginal contraceptive tool developed in recent years. It is a round ring made of medical silicone rubber tube, with progestins such as megestrol, norethindrone or 18-methylnorhenotrone placed in the ring. A few rings also have estrogen added.

In fact, the shape of each of our uteruses is more or less different, so the type of contraceptive ring that is best depends mainly on the individual's uterine shape. Of course, if you do not have severe anemia and cervical inflammation, you can also choose to use a vaginal contraceptive ring for contraception, but this method is relatively short-lived and generally needs to be replaced once a year.
