8 female contraceptive methods: pros and cons

8 female contraceptive methods: pros and cons

Selfish men don't like contraception. Nowadays, women don't have to rely on men for contraception. They can also find ways to prevent pregnancy on their own! Let's take a look at the pros and cons of these methods! Contraceptive patches are very popular abroad.

1. The Today Sponge

The vaginal contraceptive sponge is round in shape, with a diameter of about 5.5 cm and a thickness of about 2.5 cm. One side is concave to cover the cervical opening, and the other side has a ring-shaped belt to remove the sponge during intercourse. The success rate is as high as 84%.

Advantages: The contraceptive sponge has a cute appearance and is easy to use. You can use it many times within 24 hours by wearing one.

Disadvantages: It is very painful to take it out, and the spermicide in the sponge may cause skin allergies.

2. Nuva Ring

Nuva Ring is a soft, transparent ring with an outer diameter of 5.4mm. It only needs to be placed once a month. Women can easily insert it into the vagina by themselves, and no other contraceptive measures are needed afterwards. It is a hormonal contraceptive method with a success rate of 92%. It is removed after 3 weeks and replaced with a new one a week later.

Pros: We call it “set it and forget it”, it’s so convenient!

Disadvantages: I just worry that it will slide out by itself, and it will be dry underneath.

3. Diaphragm

The contraceptive film can only guarantee contraception once, and it must be used again if you have sex again. After having sex, do not wash the vagina immediately. If you don't wash it, it will be absorbed and excreted from the body with vaginal secretions, and will not cause harm to the body.

Pros: It is completely hormone-free and easy to place.

Disadvantages: I can never make up my mind whether to wash after having sex.

4. Contraceptive patch

The contraceptive patch is about half the size of a business card and looks like a small flesh-colored sticker. By continuously releasing hormones, it enters the blood through the skin and blood vessels, thereby inhibiting ovulation and achieving the contraceptive effect. It can be attached to any of the four parts: the buttocks, abdomen, outer arms and outer shoulders, but not to the chest. On the first day of menstruation or the first Sunday when menstruation begins, post a piece and replace it on the same day of each week for three consecutive weeks. No need to use in the fourth week. The patch is waterproof, so users don't have to worry about it falling off when taking a shower or swimming. The success rate is also as high as 92%.

Advantages: Convenient. Very convenient! And not as easy to forget as oral contraceptives.

Disadvantages: Because it is a hormonal contraceptive, I always feel like I have a serious illness. Besides, this patch is really strong glue!

5. IUD

This scary-looking thing is called an IUD, or more like an intrauterine device. It can remain in the uterus for five years from the time it is inserted. It is particularly suitable for women with excessive menstrual bleeding and dysmenorrhea, with a success rate of up to 99%, which means there is almost no possibility of pregnancy.

Advantages: You can completely forget about unexpected pregnancy during sex!

Disadvantages: May cause body cramps in some women.

6. Implanon

The average placement time is half a minute to 2 minutes, and removal takes up to 5 minutes. Insert it between 1 and 5 days of your period.

Advantages: You don’t have to think about taking it out every day, and it can treat dysmenorrhea!

Disadvantages: Irregular bleeding, headaches, weight gain, osteoporosis, and amenorrhea in some women.

7. Depo-Provera

A single dose can provide contraception for 3 months. Inject 150 mg once on the 2nd to 7th day of menstruation, once every 3 months.

Advantages: It reduces menstrual cramps, and regular injections eliminate the trouble of forgetting to take birth control pills.

Disadvantages: Very painful and may bleed.

8. Sterilization

The operation itself is much more cruel than what is shown in the picture. I don’t want to say too much about it, but the success rate is almost 100%. Unless you have given up the idea of continuing the incense, it is still not recommended!

Advantages: You never have to worry about pregnancy again!

Disadvantages: The operation is short but painful, and 20% of women who undergo sterilization before the age of 30 will regret it for the rest of their lives.

Compared to the most primitive contraceptive method - squatting down to discharge semen, sneezing, and jumping up and down after sexual intercourse, you have to say that today's technology is really advanced! Unexpected pregnancy is a nightmare for many people, because except for some people who get married with pregnancy, other women have to endure the painful experience of being worse than death on the abortion operating table. But then again, unwanted pregnancy is a matter of "it's both willing to fight and it's willing to be beaten", and the responsibility cannot be placed entirely on men. Now with these female contraceptive tools, women can control whether they will get pregnant or not, which to some extent reduces the embarrassment of persuading older men to use condoms and the disappointment of breaking the romantic atmosphere of foreplay because of wearing condoms. But this cannot be an excuse for men to escape responsibility and seek temporary pleasure!

Remember, condoms are the best contraceptive method to prevent AIDS invasion, and no matter how light female contraceptive tools are, they will cause certain harm to women's body and mind. So, if you love her, just wear a condom!
