Men cannot touch heads, women cannot touch feet

There has always been some connection between a man's head and a woman's feet in China. Historically, women had to bind their feet to restrict their movement, and men had to grow braids to restrain their heads and move around. If anyone was unhappy, everyone would be unhappy. Women's feet are liberated, men's braids are cut off, let's have fun together. In the past, there was a view that women's feet and private parts were treated the same. In the old days, there was also a custom among the people: "A man's head and a woman's feet can only be looked at, not touched." If a woman touches a man's head casually, or a man touches a woman's feet casually, then the relationship is special; if a man agrees to a woman touching his head, and a woman agrees to a man touching her feet, then it is a deep recognition. Of course, touching between family members or in special circumstances is a different matter. A man's head is the part of his body that best represents his identity, and only elders can touch a child's head or a man's head. If someone else touches it, it means disrespect and contempt for men. In ancient times, a person's identity was judged by the clothes and hats he wore, and the hat was reflected on the head. Therefore, the head has been a symbol of men's rights since ancient times. A man’s head should not be touched randomly because the head represents dignity. Men generally have stronger self-esteem and don't like being insulted. The same goes for women. Unless there is an intimate relationship, the feet cannot be touched casually. In ancient times, people paid great attention to women's feet. The three-inch golden lotus was a kind of aesthetic. If a man touched a woman's feet, it meant that the relationship between the two was special and deep. In Water Margin, when Ximen Qing saw Pan Jinlian, the first thing he admired was her feet and he played with them. Pan Jinlian did not have much aversion to this man, so she did not resist and instead tried to make peace. It is also a kind of reward for women to dress up to please themselves.

This is viewed from a sociological perspective, and its theoretical basis needs to be explored from a physiological perspective.

From a physiological point of view, emphasizing that men have the head and women have the feet has its theoretical basis and is not groundless talk. This theory originates from the Yin-Yang theory. The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine says, "Men are yang, women are yin; the area above the abdomen is yang, the area below the abdomen is yin..." Therefore, a man's head is the yang among yang, the peak of yang; a woman's feet are the yin among yin, the extreme of yin. An old book says "Although the feet are at the bottom, they can be relaxed to the sides." In fact, the main reason is that the feet are closely related to the sexual organs - the three yin meridians in the lower part of the human body all start from the feet, close to or around the genitals; when women reach orgasm, they sometimes have an electric shock sensation radiating from the inner thighs to the feet. Of the twelve meridians in the human body, all those in the head are yang meridians. “The head is the head of all the bones, the meeting point of all yang, the ancestor of the five elements. It is high and round, symbolizing the virtue of heaven.” Because it is “the meeting point of all yang,” the head is prone to “getting angry” - fever, headache, toothache, burning pain in the seven orifices. In terms of health preservation, washing face with cold water is advocated because it is the place where the yang meridians gather and can dissolve the cold air and prevent harm. The opposite is true for feet. No one's feet will get "inflamed". Health preservation advocates washing feet with hot water and washing hair with cold water, but does not advocate washing feet with cold water and washing hair with hot water. Compared with women, men's heads are more prone to getting inflamed; compared with men, women's feet are more prone to getting cold. For this reason, there is a saying in folk health preservation that "a cold head and hot feet feel like taking medicine."

With the development of society and the opening of minds, it is common for boyfriends and girlfriends to pat each other on the head, slap each other on the face, hug each other’s waists, and touch each other’s feet. In my opinion, in public, we should still pay attention to the fact that men should not touch each other’s heads and women should not touch each other’s feet. Intimacy is allowed in private, but it is taboo in social etiquette.
